Geospace Research, Inc.

Geospace Research, Inc. (GRI) is a privately held company that specializes in applied bioengineering and medical research.  In addition, basic research is performed in the fields of space physics and engineering, atmospheric physics, and plasma physics. 

GRI's Work

• GRI develops broadband, high-frequency ultrasound systems for the diagnosis of a variety of medical pathologies.  MEMS technologies are used to produce small imaging sensors. 
• Knowledge-based systems for the monitoring and treatment of trauma are designed and constructed.    
• Systems for the nondestructive evaluation of materials and mechanical systems are produced using ultrasound and other diagnostic techniques.
• Flexible actuators are being constructed to control the shape of large film antennas operating at mm wavelengths.
• Basic research is performed both in the medical sciences and in the fields of geophysics, atmospheric physics, and space physics.
• VHF phased-array radar systems are designed and constructed.  Inventory exists in this area.

Medical Sciences

Geospace Research, Inc. is currently developing an imaging ultrasound system to assess and grade pre-cancerous and cancerous tissue in the colon.

Atmospheric Physics

A variety of atmospheric and ionospheric studies are underway at Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico, and at the MIT Haystack Observatory/Millstone Hill site.  These experiments employ large incoherent scatter radars, digisondes, optical imagers, and Fabry-Perot interferometers as diagnostics. Satellite data is used to support many of the observations.

Flexible actuators for the control of large film antennas in space are currently undergoing test and evaluation.
